I am Charles Austin, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, and self-proclaimed “King of the Nerds”! As an Educator, I try to live by the quote, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”- Dr. Seuss. My passion for Education has been fueled by my own history of growing up and bouncing from one homeless shelter to another. Through the help of amazing and passionate teachers, I found the strength to deal with the many obstacles in my life. These teachers helped me realize Education is the great equalizer in life and spurred my passion for educating youth, particularly those deeply entrenched in the challenges of life. My professional career began in 2013 when I graduated from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University with a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors in Elementary Education. I began teaching 4th grade in the Huntsville City School district immediately after graduation. Following two years of exceptional student performance and hoping to reach more Scholars, I decided to move into the private sector of Education while also beginning to pursue my graduate degree in Education. During my career, I have served on numerous teams dedicated to improving school or student performance. I have led curricula teams focused on building and coordinating a school’s curriculum to match state standards. I have been the lead teacher responsible for creating and implementing behavior policies that profoundly and positively impact the school’s learning community. I have even served on accreditation committees with senior Educators and Principals, helping secure initial and continued accreditation for my schools. I am currently pursuing A Master of Education degree in Instructional Leadership at Alabama A&M University.
